Hasay Captures Fourth Consecutive First Place Title at Foot Locker Cross Country Champ
December 6, 2008 from press release (Walnut, CA) Jordan Hasay of Arroyo Grande, CA, and Chris Schwartz of Bakersfield, CA, won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships (FLCC) West Regional at Mount San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) in Walnut, CA. Hasay won the West Regional for the fourth consecutive year becoming the first Foot Locker Cross Country athlete to achieve this feat. Runners enjoyed good race conditions, with sunny skies and a temperature of 65 degrees. (Click here for photo gallery)
A pack of runners, including Jordan Hasay, Alexandra Dunne, Danielle Menlove, Jessica Tonn, and Taylor Wallace, dominated the girls' race until the 2.5-mile mark when Hasay pushed ahead. On the third downhill, Hasay broke free from the pack to secure her fourth regional title with a time of 18:02. Alexandra Dunne, a senior from San Clemente, CA, finished second in 18:12, with Menlove, a freshman from Sandy, UT, third in 18:23.
In the boys' race, Chris Schwartz, Trevor Dunbar, and Brian Shrader set a fast pace, keeping neck-and-neck throughout the entire race, with the next seven runners close behind. With 100 meters remaining, the tight group of ten runners hit the track when Schwartz, a senior, took the lead to capture first place in 15:38. Shrader, a junior from Flagstaff, AZ, placed second in 15:42, followed by Dunbar, a senior from Kodiak, AK, third in 15:43.
The top ten boys and the top ten girls of the seeded races qualified to compete against runners from the three other regional meets in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals, which takes place Saturday, Dec. 13 at Morley Field, Balboa Park in San Diego, CA.
